Franklin Youth Hockey's Learn-to-Skate Program
SIGN UP FOR LEARN TO SKATE SESSION 3This is a 9 week program that will take place Sundays from noon to 1:00p.m. This 3rd session starts January 27, 2008 at the Franklin Rink (Veteran’s Arena) on Panther’s Way, Franklin, MA. This program focuses on skating skills only. (A child wanting to learn to play hockey can sign up for FYHA’s Learn to Play Hockey program)..
FYHA’s Learn to Skate program focuses on skating skills only and is held at the Franklin Ice Rink on Panther Way in Franklin. A child wanting to learn to play hockey can sign up for Franklin Youth Hockey’s Learn to play hockey program at the above place, date, and time.The cost per child is $125.00 for Session 3. Children must be Franklin Youth Hockey eligible to participate.
EQUIPMENT:The following equipment is required for all levels: Skates, certified hockey helmet with face guard, gloves/mittens (should be water resistant), kneepads and elbow pads are required. It is suggested that kneepads be worn under the child’s pants.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
The rink will be divided into three groups: a beginner group, an intermediate group, and an advanced group. Each child will be advanced to the next group by on-ice instructors as their skating skills improve.
Beginners – This group is intended for early skating development. Basic skills will be taught, including: balance, walking, striding, glide turns, and stopping. Backward skating and crossovers will be introduced.
Intermediate – Skating skills will be taught, such as glide turns, intro to crossovers, several stopping methods, backward skating, edge control, and transitions.
Advanced – Skating skills will be reinforced and basic hockey skating skills will be introduced. Skaters will master, glide turns, crossovers, several stopping methods, backward skating, edge control, and transitions.
On-ice coaches will consist mainly of Franklin Youth Hockey coaches who have been certified by USA Hockey. High school students who are fulfilling their community service requirement and who have been certified to coach may be assisting as well.
Parents and adult volunteers who want to participate on-ice must be certified at the Initiation level by USA Hockey. Information regarding dates and times for an initiation clinic will be provided as it becomes available.
